Paris Saint-Germain set a Champions League record for the fastest four goals in the competition's history during a 6-0 demolition of Villarreal on Tuesday night, a result that kept the defending champions perfect through four matches of the league phase.

PSG scored four times inside the first 17 minutes at Villarreal's Estadio de la Cerámica, with João Neves opening the scoring in the ninth minute, Désiré Doué doubling the lead three minutes later, Senny Mayulu adding a third in the 13th minute, and Fabián Ruiz completing the salvo in the 17th. Opta's official timing put the gap between kickoff and Ruiz's goal at 16 minutes and 2 seconds, eclipsing the previous Champions League record of 20 minutes, set by Real Madrid against Dinamo Zagreb in November 2011, according to match coverage from WSLS and Yahoo Sports.

A statement away from home

Ruiz added a second goal shortly after halftime, and 17-year-old David Boly capped the rout in the 78th minute, scoring just four minutes after coming on as a substitute for his competition debut. The win moved PSG to 12 points, the only team with a perfect record after four of the Champions League's eight league-phase matchdays, reinforcing the French club's standing as favorites to become the first team since Real Madrid's 2016-to-2018 run to win three consecutive European titles.

Tuesday's matchday produced lopsided results elsewhere too: Barcelona beat Aston Villa 3-0 behind a goal from Lamine Yamal and two from Raphinha, while Bayern Munich won 2-0 at Atlético Madrid. Inter beat Feyenoord 3-0, and Manchester United rallied from behind to beat Roma 3-2 at Old Trafford, according to The Sports Encounter's roundup of the night.

What's next

PSG's next league-phase fixture comes later this month, while Villarreal faces a steep climb back into form with four matchdays remaining before the round-of-16 playoff berths are decided.
