Cindy Crawford's Son, Model Presley Gerber, Dies at 27

Presley Gerber, a model and the son of supermodel Cindy Crawford and businessman Rande Gerber, died Sunday at a Santa Monica rehabilitation facility. He was 27. The Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner confirmed the death and said in a statement on the case that a deputy medical examiner had performed an examination but deferred the official cause and manner of death pending further toxicology testing.

The Santa Monica Police Department said officers responded to a report of a possible overdose in the 1000 block of Berkeley Street shortly after 9:35 a.m. Sunday and found an adult male dead at the scene. Detectives are investigating the death as a suspected overdose and said there is no indication of foul play. According to police, Gerber had checked into the treatment facility, Resolutions Living of Santa Monica, at around 10 p.m. the previous night and was found unresponsive in the room where he had been staying.

A Public Life Since Childhood

Gerber, born in 1999 in Los Angeles County, was signed to IMG Models at 15 and made his runway debut for Moschino at 16, going on to walk shows for Burberry, Dolce & Gabbana and Bottega Veneta and to appear in campaigns for Calvin Klein, Celine, Pepsi and Omega. He was the older brother of model and actress Kaia Gerber and the son of two of the fashion industry's best-known figures; Crawford and Rande Gerber married in 1998.

He had spoken publicly in recent years about struggles with substance abuse and mental health, including a 2019 drunk-driving arrest and a 2024 video series he called "Mental Health Mondays," in which he discussed his own treatment and recovery. His sister has referenced his addiction struggles in interviews, and his family had previously described his path through treatment as an ongoing process rather than a resolved chapter.

Family Asks for Privacy

"The family is asking for privacy during this very difficult and painful time," Allie Jenkins, a representative for Crawford and Rande Gerber, said in a statement confirming the death, according to multiple outlets including PBS NewsHour and ABC News, both of which confirmed the death and the family's statement independently. Neither Crawford nor Rande Gerber has commented further publicly.

His death comes even as the national overdose picture has been improving: provisional data tracked by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention shows U.S. drug overdose deaths falling by more than 12% over the twelve months ending earlier this year, continuing a decline from a 2022 peak, even as individual deaths like this one underscore how uneven that progress remains.

No funeral or memorial arrangements had been announced as of Monday. The medical examiner's office said the cause and manner of death would not be finalized until additional toxicology results are complete, a process that in Los Angeles County typically takes several weeks.

Gerber grew up largely out of the spotlight compared with his younger sister, whose modeling and acting career expanded rapidly in her teens, but he built his own following through magazine editorials for GQ Style and The New York Times Style Magazine and a visible presence on social media, where he had spoken candidly to fans about feeling "misunderstood" during periods of treatment. He continued modeling intermittently in the years before his death while periodically stepping away from public work, according to his family's account of his time in and out of treatment, though the family has not indicated whether a public memorial is planned.
